Amalfi Coast Walking
I cannot rave enough about the many incredible walking and hiking trails on the Amalfi Coast. I had the opportunity to explore some with my colleague from Story Land & Sea® (online at http://www.ItalyStory.com), Dan Dieckhaus, Tour Captain extraordinaire and great trailblazer. For those who have not already discovered the Amalfi Coast, (in Italian Costiera Amalfitana), it is a stretch of coastline on the southern tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula in Salerno and since 1997 has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – well worth the designation.
Most of our guests who travel on our true small group tour, Italy’s Great Cities Tour, end up adding the Amalfi Coast Extension which is 4 days, 3 nights based in Sorrento, not the official Amalfi Coast mind you but the perfect base for exploring. One trail I particularly enjoyed was the Punta Campanella. Located at the point where the Monti Latteri begins it descent to the sea the trail is the meeting point of the Sorrentine Peninsula with the Enchanted Amalfi Coast. Punta Campanella is also where legend says Ulysses was seduced by the Sirens. I’ll talk about the Sirens of the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast in another posting!
